Klaus Mochalski and Yosi Shneck (YSICONS) discuss AI in OT sensors. Learn how “Layer 0 AI” is transforming trustworthy measurement data and why OT security must protect not only systems but also the truth in the future.

Yosi Shneck: „So OT is much more [...] intuition free, it's much more based on hard evidence. But the problem is that this gap can close quickly. [...] OT does not eliminate intuition, it keeps intuition bounded by trusted evidence. Embedded AI can change evidence before the human applies judgment.“]
Yosi Shneck: „I call it layer zero AI. [...] Machine learning logic is embedded below the operator's normal trust boundary [...] Layer zero AI may simply deliver a clean measuring value while hiding that it has denoised, fused, classified, estimated, completed or synthesized.“
Yosi Shneck: „[...] a plausible presentation can conceal a bias and this is actually the point. [...] Something that the operator and the decision maker was so sure that it is the pure truth is not so pure.“
Yosi Shneck: „A nominal human in the loop is therefore not automatically an independent safety layer [if the human is basing his decision on false information].“
Yosi Shneck: „Forbidding something that is so contributing is something that will not work. It is to prevent probabilistic interpretation from masquerading as an unquestioned physical measurement.“
Yosi Shneck: „Label measurement versus inference: show whether a value is measured, estimated or classified. It's not enough to get the number, you should get the characteristic that shows to the operator [...] what is the source of the number that you see...“
Yosi Shneck: „Once the sensor starts guessing, OT cyber security must protect not only the system, but the truth upon which every decision depends.“
